Product overview
Setup Tool is a utility application used to manage any of the following groups of settings that you can export from your printer to your computer:
- Device Accounting Settings
- Account List
- Device Authentication Settings
- Device User List
- Device Address Book
- Device Network Groups
You can create, review, modify, or back up any of the available groups of settings on your computer, then import them to one or more printers.
Options may vary depending on your printer or selected group of settings.
Documentation
This guide helps you install and use Setup Tool, and is intended for system administrators.
Conventions
The following conventions may be used in this guide:
- Bold text is used for menu items and buttons
- Screen, text box, and drop-down menu titles are spelled and punctuated exactly as they are displayed on the screen
- Italics are used for document titles
- Text or commands that a user enters are displayed as text in a different font or in a text box as shown in these examples:
- On the command line, enter net stop program

Installing the application
- Make sure that you have a copy of the installation package saved on your computer.
- In Windows operating systems, you must have administrator rights to install the application.
- In your computer, browse to the installation package.
If necessary, extract the *.zip package. - In the installation package, run setup.exe.
- Review or modify the destination folder, then select Next.
- Do any of the following:
• Review the settings, then select Install.
• To modify the settings, select Back.
• To exit the installer, select Cancel. - After installation finishes, select Finish.
You can also select the option to start the application after exiting the installer.
Managing information in maintenance mode
To export groups of settings from your printer to Setup Tool, or to import groups of settings to one or more printers, you must access maintenance mode U917 on your printer operation panel.
Before you begin, make sure that:
- You have administrator access to your printer.
- The printer is not being used and is in ready or standby mode.
- The home screen is displayed on your printer operation panel.
- If you are exporting groups of settings from the printer to your computer, your USB drive must have enough storage capacity for new files.
- If you are importing groups of settings to your printer, the correct files are saved in your USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive into the USB port of your printer.
- Enter maintenance mode U917.
- Do either of the following:
• To import groups of settings, select any of the available options, then select Import. After import finishes, remove the USB drive, then turn off and restart your printer.
• To export groups of settings, select any of the available options, then select Export. After export finishes, remove the USB drive.
The following file names are associated with the respective groups of settings:
Make sure to:
- Take note of the source printer model.
- Select the correct target printer model in Setup Tool.
- For printers without an assigned code, the file names have the IEP prefix.
- For printers with an assigned code, the file names have a three character prefix other than IEP that varies depending on the printer model.
Using the application
- In your computer, select Start.
- Do either of the following:
• Type Setup Tool, then select the application from the list.
• Select Kyocera > Setup Tool.
The application starts with an empty file list. Files that are managed, for example, created or opened, in the application are added to the list.
When closing the application, you may be prompted to save any files before being removed from the list.
Creating a new file
You can create and manage groups of settings in Setup Tool without exporting files from your printer to the application.
- Select File > New.
- Select the target printer for setup, then select the settings for setup.
• Make sure to select the correct target printer.
• You can create one file for one target printer and one group of settings.
• Available settings may vary depending on your printer. - Select OK.
- In Settings, select Edit, then review or modify any of the available options.

• To save your file, select File > Save.
• To save your file in a specific destination, select Save as.
• You cannot edit the file name.
• You can save your file in a USB drive for importing to one or more printers.
Opening and editing files
When opening or editing files in Setup Tool, make sure that all the dependencies are located in the same location in your computer.
For example, to open or edit XXX_AC1_S1, XXX_AC2_S1 must be in the same location as XXX_AC1_S1.
To ensure the integrity of interdependent settings, Setup Tool may prompt you to secure any missing dependencies.
- Select File > Open, then browse to the location of your files.
The files that are supported by Setup Tool, including .zip files, are listed in the directory. - Select the files, then select Open.
For .zip files, review or modify the selections for input file and output mode, then select Open. - Select the target printer for setup, then select OK.
• Target printers that are equivalent to the source printer are listed in Device group.
• For Device Address Book, if prompted, make sure to select the correct SMB port. - To review or modify available settings, select Edit.
Supported parameters may vary depending on the Settings type or your printer. For more information, see Supported parameters. - To return to the main window, select Close or OK, depending on the Settings type.
• To save your file, select File > Save.
• To save your file in a specific destination, select Save as.
• You cannot edit the file name.
• You can save your file in a USB drive for importing to one or more printers.
Converting files
You can convert groups of settings from one printer to another. The files are automatically made to be compatible with the target printer.
- Make sure that you have exported the correct files from the source printer. For more information, see Managing information in maintenance mode.
- Take note of the location of the folder where the exported files or .zip file is saved in.
- If necessary, before converting, make sure to review and edit the files. Make sure that all file dependencies are satisfied. For more information, see Opening and editing files.
During file conversion, you may be prompted to resolve some errors.
To avoid experiencing certain errors, make sure that all files have the same first three characters in the file names.

- Select File > Convert.
- Browse to and select the folder where the exported files are saved in, then select OK.
For .zip files, review or modify the selections for input file and output mode, then select Open. - Select the target printer for setup, then select OK.
• Target printers that are equivalent to the source printer are listed in Device group.
• For Device Address Book, if prompted, make sure to select the correct SMB port.
• To replace similar files in the destination folder, you may select Overwrite files. - Browse to and select the destination folder where the converted files will be saved in.
- To begin with file conversion, select OK.
- After file conversion finishes, select OK.
If you encounter errors, resolve any problems then repeat the conversion. If problems persist, contact any qualified service personnel.
Importing address book files
You can import and manage address book entries in Setup Tool.
This application supports *.csv files that are similar in format to address book entries exported from KYOCERA Net Viewer 4.x and 5.3 or later. For more information, see KYOCERA Net Viewer User Guide.
- Select File > Import.
- Browse to then select the correct *.csv file.
- Select the target printer for setup.
• Target printers that are equivalent to the source printer are listed in Device group.
• For Device Address Book, if prompted, make sure to select the correct SMB port. - To begin importing information, select Next.
- Review the import result, then select Finish.
Supported parameters
The following table outlines some of the options available for each group of settings:
- For some options, a dark box means that it is set as a printer default. You can select the box to toggle between enabled and disabled status.
